Encoding video for KiSS players
General tips, AVI
When encoding .avi files, you can use AC3 or MP3 audio (The Lame and the Fraunhofer encoders give the best quality).
We recommend only using constant bitrate audio (CBR) for the .avi format. You can read the full explanation
here The manual for mplayer also mentions this as being not recommendable.
General tips, MPEG
You can also choose to make MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files or MPEG-2 based VOB files.
MPEG-2 has much better support for interlaced content, but uses appx. twice the
amount of space than XviD and DivX to achieve the same quality.
