Suggested name | Ekyume Nachi |
Planet type | Cold planet |
This cold planet is named after the deity Ekyume Nachi, the creator of love and beauty.
Ekyume Nachi is gravitationally locked with nu Oph in a 2:1 spin-orbit resonance, and rotates in a way that is unique in its solar system.
Two spacecraft have visited Ekyume Nachi: Frontier 10 flew by 23 years ago; and Messenger, launched 16 years ago, orbited Ekyume Nachi over 95 times in four years before exhausting its pwoer source and crashing into the planet's surface 11 years later.
Ekyume Nachi has been explored on several occasions by robotic spacecraft, most notably during the early Pioneer and Wayfinder flyby missions and later by the Galileo orbiter. The latest probe to visit the planet is Racer, which entered into orbit around Ekyume Nachi after a challenging trip. |
