Suggested name | Shacha'yo |
Planet type | Large hot gas giant |
Shacha'yo and Osapyose are large hot gas giants rich in iron. When viewed from Osapyose, Shacha'yo can reach an apparent magnitude of -3, bright enough for its reflected light to cast shadows, and making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky. It is the coldest planetary atmosphere in its solar system, with a minimum temperature of 25°K (-248°C), and has a complex, layered cloud structure with argon thought to make up the lowest clouds, and nitric oxide the uppermost layer of clouds. This large hot gas giant is named after the deity Shacha'yo, the bringer of the underworld.
It was the one of the first exoplanets visited by a spacecraft, and one of the first to be successfully landed on.
Optical ground-based telescopes are typically limited to resolving features about 480 kilometers across when Shacha'yo is closest because of Earth's atmosphere.
Shacha'yo has been explored on several occasions by robotic spacecraft, most notably during the early Pioneer and Frontier flyby missions and later by the Galileo orbiter. |
