Suggested name | Piwyd'ireg |
Planet type | Warm planet |
Piwyd'ireg is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the valleys, deserts, and polar ice caps of Earth. Piwyd'ireg is orbiting TRAPPIST-1 every 12 Earth days.
For this reason, scientists often classify Piwyd'ireg and Lurod as "warm planets" to distinguish them from the other planets. It is named after the deity Piwyd'ireg, the messenger of prosperity.
As the closest planet to Lurod, Piwyd'ireg has been a prime target for early interplanetary exploration.
Piwyd'ireg has been explored on several occasions by robotic spacecraft, most notably during the early Pioneer and Daedalus flyby missions and later by the Galileo orbiter. |
