Suggested name | Kyonyo-te |
Planet type | Cold gas giant |
Kyonyo-te and Hobe-mehya are cold gas giants rich in ice. Kyonyo-te has been known to astronomers since antiquity. This planet is named after the deity Kyonyo-te, the god of prosperity.
Kyonyo-te is by far the hottest planet in its solar system, with a mean surface temperature of 761°K (488°C). Kyonyo-te is shrouded by an opaque layer of highly reflective clouds of sulfuric acid, preventing its surface from being seen from space in visible light.
Liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Kyonyo-te due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 4 percent of Earth's, except at the lowest elevations for short periods.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Racer, which entered into orbit around Kyonyo-te after a problematic trip.
The Kyonyo-te system has a unique configuration among those of the planets because its axis of rotation is tilted sideways, nearly into the plane of its solar orbit. Wind speeds can reach 50 metres per second. |
