Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Onegala |
Planet type | Cold planet |
Onegala is the oldest planet known belonging to SOI-2 and one of the largest in its solar system. Onegala and Sielis are cold planets rich in ice. The planet is named after the deity Onegala, the bringer of fear.
The planet telescopically displays the complete range of phases, similar to Venus and the Moon, as it moves in its inner orbit relative to SOI-2, which reoccurs over the so-called synodic period approximately every 104 days.
Its orbital eccentricity is the largest of all known planets in its solar system; at perihelion, Onegala's distance from SOI-2 is only about two-thirds (or 99 pct) of its distance at aphelion.
There are ongoing investigations assessing the future terraforming potential of Onegala, as well as the possibility of extant life.
It may also have a rocky core of heavier elements, but like the other cold planets, Onegala lacks a well-defined solid surface.
Onegala has been explored on several occasions by robotic spacecraft, most notably during the early Pioneer and Wayfinder flyby missions and later by the Galileo orbiter.
Observations from Earth have shown seasonal change and increased weather activity as Onegala approached its equinox 4 years ago. |
