Suggested name | Reiet-lirrtur |
Planet type | Huge cold gas giant |
Reiet-lirrtur is the closest planet to OGLE-2016-BLG-0596L and one of the oldest in its solar system. For this reason, scientists often classify Reiet-lirrtur and Cresfari-hy as "huge cold gas giants" to distinguish them from the other planets. The interior of Reiet-lirrtur is mainly composed of ices and rock. This planet is named after the deity Reiet-lirrtur, the bringer of the sea.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 110°K (-163°C) at night to 875°K (602°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
Two spacecraft have visited Reiet-lirrtur: Frontier 8 flew by 47 years ago; and Messenger, launched 9 years ago, orbited Reiet-lirrtur over 130 times in four years before exhausting its pwoer source and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 12 years later.
It may also have a rocky core of heavier elements, but like the other huge cold gas giants, Reiet-lirrtur lacks a well-defined ozone layer.
Surface entirely occupied by large earth-like insects, the "Rionpho", which survive in the forest by consuming anything they find. They are believed to be not related to Nixsa but have wings and vary in length from 50 to 60 cm. Most Rionpho can survive temperatures from 110 to 210°C and intense weather which is common on this planet. |
