Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Reyyunx Yung |
Planet type | Large cold gas giant |
In English, Reyyunx Yung is often referred to as the "black planet" because the hydrogen prevalent on its surface gives it a slight black appearance that is recognizable among the astronomical bodies visible to the naked eye.
It is named after the deity Reyyunx Yung, the demon of the sky.
Reyyunx Yung's axis has the smallest tilt of any of its solar system's planets.
Two spacecraft have visited Reyyunx Yung: Wayfinder 6 flew by 24 years ago; and Messenger, launched 12 years ago, orbited Reyyunx Yung over 145 times in four years before exhausting its plasma drive and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 4 years later.
It has the densest atmosphere of all the large cold gas giants, consisting partly of carbon dioxide. The atmospheric pressure at the planet's surface is 30 bar, or roughly the pressure found 765 m under the oceans of Earth. Reyyunx Yung is shrouded by an opaque layer of highly reflective clouds of sulfuric acid, preventing its surface from being seen from space in visible light.
Because of its rapid rotation, the planet's shape is that of an oblate spheroid (it has a slight but noticeable bulge around the equator). The outer atmosphere is visibly segregated into several bands at different latitudes, resulting in turbulence and storms along their interacting boundaries.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Juno, which entered into orbit around Reyyunx Yung after a very expensive ride. |
