Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Rito |
Planet type | Hot planet |
It has the longest rotation period (445 days) of any planet in its solar system and rotates in the opposite direction to most other planets.
Rito has been known to astronomers since antiquity. The planet is named after the deity Rito, the spirit of the underworld.
Like Usog'usego, Rito has been orbiting LHS 1815 for @STARAGE billion years, and never moves more than 17 degrees away from LHS 1815. At this time it may appear as a bright star-like object, but is often far more difficult to observe than Usog'usego.
As seen from LHS 1815, in a frame of reference that rotates with the orbital motion, it appears to rotate only once every two years.
The volume of water ice in the south polar ice cap, if melted, would be sufficient to cover the entire planetary surface to a depth of 14 meters.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Pioneer, which entered into orbit around Rito after a very expensive trip. |
