Suggested name | Kivi |
Planet type | Warm planet |
Kivi is the oldest planet known belonging to Kepler-90 and one of the oldest in its solar system. It is named after the deity Kivi, the messenger of good fortune.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 175°K (-98°C) at night to 1120°K (847°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
Kivi was one of the first planets to have its motions plotted across the sky - as early as the second millennium BC.
It was the one of the first exoplanets visited by a spacecraft, and one of the first to be successfully landed on.
Optical ground-based telescopes are typically limited to resolving features about 300 kilometers across when Kivi is closest because of Aitthea-beb's atmosphere.
Surrounding Kivi is a irregular planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere. |
