Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Faok |
Planet type | Cold planet |
This planet is named after the deity Faok, the god of fear.
Its orbital eccentricity is the largest of all known planets in its solar system; at perihelion, Faok's distance from Kepler-662 is only about two-thirds (or 116 pct) of its distance at aphelion.
Two spacecraft have visited Faok: Frontier 10 flew by 42 years ago; and Messenger, launched 8 years ago, orbited Faok over 115 times in four years before exhausting its plasma drive and crashing into the planet's surface 4 years later.
Faok was one of the first planets to have its motions plotted across the sky - as early as the second millennium BC.
It was the one of the first exoplanets visited by a spacecraft, and one of the first to be successfully landed on.
Because of its rapid rotation, the planet's shape is that of an oblate spheroid (it has a slight but noticeable bulge around the equator). Surrounding Faok is a vast planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Juno, which entered into orbit around Faok after a problematic ride. |
