Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Petungr |
Planet type | Cold planet |
When viewed from Beme-hephaë, Petungr can reach an apparent magnitude of -3, bright enough for its reflected light to cast shadows, and making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky. The planet is named after the deity Petungr, the demon of chaos.
Petungr's surface appears quite rippled and is similar in appearance to the Moon's, indicating that it has been geologically inactive for billions of years.
Two spacecraft have visited Petungr: Wayfinder 8 flew by 30 years ago; and Messenger, launched 15 years ago, orbited Petungr over 175 times in four years before exhausting its fuel and crashing into the planet's surface 5 years later.
A prominent result is the "great gray spot", a giant storm that is known to have existed for centuries since it was first observed by radar.
Observations from Earth have shown seasonal change and increased weather activity as Petungr approached its equinox 4 years ago. |
