Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Nehya-fumyo Jo |
Planet type | Large cold gas giant |
It is named after the deity Nehya-fumyo Jo, the god of dreams.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 165°K (-108°C) at night to 1120°K (847°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
Two spacecraft have visited Nehya-fumyo Jo: Wayfinder 3 flew by 26 years ago; and Messenger, launched 20 years ago, orbited Nehya-fumyo Jo over 70 times in four years before exhausting its fuel and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 6 years later.
The smooth Borealis basin in the northern hemisphere covers 33 percent of the planet and may be a giant impact feature. |
