Suggested name | Besho Nyopo-kyo |
Planet type | Huge cold gas giant |
Its orbital period around KOI-12 of 2500 earth days is the shortest of all the planets in its solar system. Besho Nyopo-kyo is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the valleys, deserts, and polar ice caps of Earth. Besho Nyopo-kyo is orbiting KOI-12 every 2500 Earth days.
The planet is named after the deity Besho Nyopo-kyo, the demon of hate.
It is radically different from Hyunabya-o in other respects.
As the closest planet to Hyunabya-o, Besho Nyopo-kyo has been a prime target for early extra solar exploration. It was the one of the first exoplanets visited by a spacecraft, and one of the first to be successfully landed on.
Liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Besho Nyopo-kyo due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 8 percent of Hyunabya-o's, except at the highest elevations for short periods. The two polar ice caps appear to be made largely of rock. |
