Its orbital period around Kepler-439 of 180 earth days is the longest of all the planets in its solar system.
The planet is named after the deity Detania, the demon of fear.
It may have had formaldehyde oceans in the past, but these would have vaporized as the temperature rose due to a runaway greenhouse effect. Detania's surface is a dry desertscape interspersed with slab-like rocks and is periodically resurfaced by volcanism.
As one of the most noticeable objects in the sky, Detania has been a major factor in native culture for as long as records have existed. It has been made sacred to gods of many alien species, and has been a huge inspiration for musicians, calling it the "summer god". Detania was one of the first planets to have its motions plotted across the sky - as early as the second millennium BC.
In 2780, images from Wayfinder 6 showed Detania as an almost featureless planet in visible light, without the cloud bands or storms associated with the other cold planets. |
