Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Refugi |
Planet type | Terrestrial |
In English, Refugi is often referred to as the "white planet" because the krypton prevalent on its surface gives it a scary white appearance that is distinctive among the astronomical bodies visible to the naked eye.
This planet is named after the deity Refugi, the spirit of love and beauty.
Refugi is gravitationally locked with Kepler-242 in a 4:3 spin-orbit resonance, and rotates in a way that is unique in its solar system.
Two spacecraft have visited Refugi: Daedalus 8 flew by 44 years ago; and Messenger, launched 14 years ago, orbited Refugi over 145 times in four years before exhausting its fuel and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 8 years later.
The volume of water ice in the south polar ice cap, if melted, would be sufficient to cover the entire planetary surface to a depth of 8 meters.
Its north and south poles, therefore, lie where most other planets have their equators. |
