Suggested name | Meal Munliaq |
Planet type | Hot planet |
Meal Munliaq and Diculo are hot planets rich in gas. When viewed from Diculo, Meal Munliaq can reach an apparent magnitude of -3, bright enough for its reflected light to cast shadows, and making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky. The planet is named after the deity Meal Munliaq, the god of dreams.
Like Diculo, Meal Munliaq has been orbiting Kepler-172 within Leneloge Dene's orbit as an inferior planet, and never exceeds 11 degrees away from Kepler-172.
As seen from Kepler-172, in a frame of reference that rotates with the orbital motion, it appears to rotate only once every two years.
Meal Munliaq's hazy atmosphere make observation of its surface impossible in visible light, and the first detailed maps did not emerge until the arrival of the Magellan orbiter 62 years ago.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Juno, which entered into orbit around Meal Munliaq after a troublesome voyage.
Wind speeds can reach 68 metres per second. |
