Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Gathe |
Planet type | Cold planet |
This cold planet is named after the deity Gathe, the bringer of good fortune.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 125°K (-148°C) at night to 455°K (182°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
It is radically different from Drafer Suridi in other respects.
Liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Gathe due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 7 percent of Earth's, except at the lowest elevations for short periods.
Optical ground-based telescopes are typically limited to resolving features about 510 kilometers across when Gathe is closest because of Earth's atmosphere.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Pioneer, which entered into orbit around Gathe after a lengthy ride. |
