Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Teri'hidys |
Planet type | Cold planet |
In English, Teri'hidys is often referred to as the "red planet" because the sulfur dioxide prevalent on its surface gives it a pale red appearance that is recognizable among the astronomical bodies visible to the naked eye.
When viewed from Chepho Eu, Teri'hidys can reach an apparent magnitude of -3, bright enough for its reflected light to cast shadows, and making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky. This planet is named after the deity Teri'hidys, the demon of war.
Teri'hidys is the site of Olympus Montanus, the tallest volcano and second-highest known mountain in its solar system, and of Valles Marineris, one of the largest canyons in its solar system. The smooth Borealis basin in the northern hemisphere covers 31 percent of the planet and may be a giant impact feature.
Teri'hidys can easily be seen from Chepho Eu with the naked eye, as can its redish coloring.
In late February 3400, Teri'hidys was visited by the New Horizons probe, which used Teri'hidys's gravity to increase its speed and bend its trajectory en route to Chepho Eu. |
