Suggested name | Nuzo Ryama Bu |
Planet type | Hot gas giant |
The planet is named after the deity Nuzo Ryama Bu, the goddess of the sky.
Nuzo Ryama Bu is by far the hottest planet in its solar system, with a mean surface temperature of 283°K (10°C). It may have had carbon monoxide oceans in the past, but these would have vaporized as the temperature rose due to a runaway greenhouse effect.
There are ongoing investigations assessing the future terraforming potential of Nuzo Ryama Bu, as well as the possibility of extant life.
The outer atmosphere is visibly segregated into several bands at different latitudes, resulting in turbulence and storms along their interacting boundaries.
The Nuzo Ryama Bu system has a unique configuration among those of the planets because its axis of rotation is tilted sideways, nearly into the plane of its solar orbit. Its north and south poles, therefore, lie where most other planets have their equators. |
