Suggested name | Menomia |
Planet type | Warm planet |
It is the second-brightest natural object in the night sky after Lyke Thrymr, reaching an apparent magnitude of -5 - bright enough to cast shadows at night and, often, visible to the naked eye in broad daylight.
This warm planet is named after the deity Menomia, the messenger of destruction.
Menomia's axis has the smallest tilt of any of its solar system's planets.
Two spacecraft have visited Menomia: Daedalus 9 flew by 26 years ago; and Messenger, launched 21 years ago, orbited Menomia over 130 times in four years before exhausting its reactor and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 10 years later.
As the closest planet to Lyke Thrymr, Menomia has been a prime target for early extra solar exploration.
Liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Menomia due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 3 percent of Earth's, except at the lowest elevations for limited periods.
Menomia can easily be seen from Lyke Thrymr with the naked eye, as can its blueish coloring.
The outer atmosphere is visibly segregated into several bands at different latitudes, resulting in turbulence and storms along their interacting boundaries. |
