Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Minugu |
Planet type | Warm planet |
Orbiting within Dojo'ru's orbit, Minugu is an inferior planet and never appears to venture far from K2-42; its maximum angular distance from K2-42 (elongation) is 58 degrees.
When viewed from Dojo'ru, Minugu can reach an apparent magnitude of -3, bright enough for its reflected light to cast shadows, and making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky. For this reason, scientists often classify Minugu and Dojo'ru as "warm planets" to distinguish them from the other planets. Minugu's atmosphere is similar to Dojo'ru's in its primary composition of methane and carbon dioxide, but it contains more "ices" such as water, ammonia, and methane, along with traces of other hydrocarbons. The planet is named after the deity Minugu, the spirit of destruction.
It was the one of the first exoplanets visited by a spacecraft, and one of the first to be successfully landed on.
The volume of water detected has been estimated to be equivalent to the volume of water in Lake Superior. |
