Suggested name | Pikapi |
Planet type | Large cold gas giant |
It is named after the deity Pikapi, the spirit of the sky.
Pikapi is gravitationally locked with HR 8799 in a 2:1 spin-orbit resonance, and rotates in a way that is unique in its solar system. As seen from HR 8799, in a frame of reference that rotates with the orbital motion, it appears to rotate only once every two years.
Pikapi's hazy atmosphere make observation of its surface difficult in infrared light, and the first detailed maps did not emerge until the arrival of the Magellan orbiter 58 years ago.
Pikapi can easily be seen from Rodogyo with the naked eye, as can its yellowish coloring.
Its north and south poles, therefore, lie where most other planets have their equators. Observations from Earth have shown seasonal change and increased weather activity as Pikapi approached its equinox 3 years ago. |
