Suggested name | Paculo |
Planet type | Terrestrial |
When viewed from Coriet, Paculo can reach an apparent magnitude of -3, bright enough for its reflected light to cast shadows, and making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky. For this reason, scientists often classify Paculo and Coriet as "terrestrials" to distinguish them from the other planets. The planet is named after the deity Paculo, the messenger of war.
Paculo is gravitationally locked with HIP 97166 in a 2:1 spin-orbit resonance, and rotates in a way that is unique in its solar system.
Paculo's surface appears quite cratered and is similar in appearance to the Moon's, indicating that it has been geologically inactive for billions of years.
Paculo's dense clouds render observation of its surface difficult in ultraviolet light, and the first detailed maps did not emerge until the arrival of the Magellan orbiter 54 years ago.
Paculo is the site of Celestium Montanus, the biggest volcano and second-highest known mountain in its solar system, and of Valles Marineris, one of the largest canyons in its solar system. |
