Suggested name | Nweiyang |
Planet type | Cold planet |
Nweiyang is similar in composition to Teic'ous, and both have different bulk chemical composition from that of the larger cold planets. Nweiyang's atmosphere is similar to Teic'ous's in its primary composition of ammonium hydrosulfide (NH4SH) and carbonyl sulfide, but it contains more "ices" such as water, ammonia, and methane, along with traces of other hydrocarbons. The planet is named after the deity Nweiyang, the god of fear.
When viewed from Teic'ous, this proximity to HIP 65407 means the planet can only be seen near the western or eastern horizon during the early evening or early morning.
Nweiyang is gravitationally locked with HIP 65407 in a 2:1 spin-orbit resonance, and rotates in a way that is unique in its solar system.
Its orbital eccentricity is the largest of all known planets in its solar system; at perihelion, Nweiyang's distance from HIP 65407 is only about two-thirds (or 33 pct) of its distance at aphelion.
It is radically different from Teic'ous in other respects. It has the densest atmosphere of all the cold planets, consisting primarily of ammonium hydrosulfide (NH4SH).
Surrounding Nweiyang is a thin planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere. |
