Suggested name | Petodora-tho |
Planet type | Cold planet |
Petodora-tho is the fourth planet from HD 74156 and the second-smallest planet in its solar system.
It is named after the deity Petodora-tho, the bringer of dreams.
Two spacecraft have visited Petodora-tho: Frontier 9 flew by 27 years ago; and Messenger, launched 11 years ago, orbited Petodora-tho over 135 times in four years before exhausting its plasma drive and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 4 years later.
Petodora-tho is by far the hottest planet in its solar system, with a mean surface temperature of 305°K (32°C). It may have had hydrogen peroxide oceans in the past, but these would have vaporized as the temperature rose due to a runaway greenhouse effect.
Petodora-tho has been explored on several occasions by robotic spacecraft, most notably during the early Pioneer and Daedalus flyby missions and later by the Hawking orbiter. |
