Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Ryokyo |
Planet type | Hot planet |
Orbiting within Chiku's orbit, Ryokyo is an inferior planet and never appears to venture far from HD 2638; its maximum angular distance from HD 2638 (elongation) is 24 degrees.
The planet is named after the deity Ryokyo, the creator of hate.
When viewed from Earth, this proximity to HD 2638 means the planet can only be seen near the western or eastern horizon during the early evening or early morning.
Ryokyo's axis has the smallest tilt of any of its solar system's planets.
Ryokyo is shrouded by an opaque layer of highly reflective clouds of sulfuric acid, preventing its surface from being seen from space in visible light. Ryokyo's surface is a dry desertscape interspersed with slab-like rocks and is periodically resurfaced by volcanism.
The volume of water ice in the south polar ice cap, if melted, would be sufficient to cover the entire planetary surface to a depth of 14 meters.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Pioneer, which entered into orbit around Ryokyo after a problematic ride. |
