Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Ivufug |
Planet type | Cold gas giant |
It is the second-brightest natural object in the night sky after Simeze, reaching an apparent magnitude of -5 - bright enough to cast shadows at night and, sometimes, visible to the naked eye in broad daylight.
Ivufug has been known to astronomers since antiquity. It is the coldest planetary atmosphere in its solar system, with a minimum temperature of 73°K (-200°C), and has a complex, layered cloud structure with 2H2O thought to make up the lowest clouds, and ammonia the uppermost layer of clouds. It is named after the deity Ivufug, the bringer of chaos.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 85°K (-188°C) at night to 1225°K (952°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
Ivufug is a cold gas giant and is sometimes called Simeze's "sister planet" because of their similar size, mass, proximity to HD 185283, and bulk composition. It has the densest atmosphere of the three cold gas giants, consisting partly of ammonia.
In late February 2500, Ivufug was visited by the New Horizons probe, which used Ivufug's gravity to increase its speed and bend its trajectory en route to Simeze. |
