Suggested name | Sojeki Jo |
Planet type | Cold planet |
In English, Sojeki Jo is often referred to as the "yellow planet" because the carbonyl sulfide prevalent on its surface gives it a slight yellow appearance that is distinctive among the astronomical bodies visible to the naked eye.
This cold planet is named after the deity Sojeki Jo, the god of love and beauty.
Two spacecraft have visited Sojeki Jo: Daedalus 10 flew by 30 years ago; and Messenger, launched 24 years ago, orbited Sojeki Jo over 135 times in four years before exhausting its reactor and crashing into the planet's surface 10 years later.
The atmospheric pressure at the planet's surface is 17 bar, or roughly the pressure found 720 m under the oceans of Ubenes. Sojeki Jo is shrouded by an opaque layer of highly reflective clouds of sulfuric acid, preventing its surface from being seen from space in visible light.
Because of its rapid rotation, the planet's shape is that of an oblate spheroid (it has a slight but noticeable bulge around the equator). |
