| Yuedwang is the oldest planet known belonging to HD 114613 and one of the oldest in its solar system. The planet is named after the deity Yuedwang, the god of the underworld.
Two spacecraft have visited Yuedwang: Daedalus 11 flew by 23 years ago; and Messenger, launched 17 years ago, orbited Yuedwang over 115 times in four years before exhausting its reactor and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 9 years later.
Liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Yuedwang due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 8 percent of Myanb's, except at the lowest elevations for short periods.
It may also have a rocky core of heavier elements, but like the other cold planets, Yuedwang lacks a well-defined ozone layer. Surrounding Yuedwang is a large planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Racer, which entered into orbit around Yuedwang after a very expensive ride. |
