Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Meron |
Planet type | Hot gas giant |
For this reason, scientists often classify Meron and Bianka as "hot gas giants" to distinguish them from the other planets. This hot gas giant is named after the deity Meron, the god of chaos.
Two spacecraft have visited Meron: Daedalus 10 flew by 50 years ago; and Messenger, launched 21 years ago, orbited Meron over 170 times in four years before exhausting its plasma drive and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 12 years later.
Meron is shrouded by an opaque layer of highly reflective clouds of sulfuric acid, preventing its surface from being seen from space in visible light.
The two polar ice caps appear to be made largely of frozen gas.
Its apparent magnitude reaches -3, which is surpassed only by Bianka, Massida Thi, and HATS-42. |
