Suggested name | Memabmos Tungr |
Planet type | Hot gas giant |
It is the second-brightest natural object in the night sky after Apusmevi'netay, reaching an apparent magnitude of -5 - bright enough to cast shadows at night and, rarely, visible to the naked eye in broad daylight.
It is a hot gas giant planet with a mass one-thousandth that of HAT-P-37, but two-and-a-half times that of all the other planets in its solar system combined. It is named after the deity Memabmos Tungr, the goddess of love and beauty.
When viewed from Earth, this proximity to HAT-P-37 means the planet can only be seen near the western or eastern horizon during the early evening or early morning.
Two spacecraft have visited Memabmos Tungr: Daedalus 11 flew by 27 years ago; and Messenger, launched 17 years ago, orbited Memabmos Tungr over 120 times in four years before exhausting its plasma drive and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 6 years later.
The atmospheric pressure at the planet's surface is 0.4 bar, or roughly the pressure found 1035 m under the oceans of Apusmevi'netay.
In late February 1000, Memabmos Tungr was visited by the New Horizons probe, which used Memabmos Tungr's gravity to increase its speed and bend its trajectory en route to Apusmevi'netay. |
