| Eikei'xwa is similar in composition to Aizye, and both have different bulk chemical composition from that of the larger hot gas giants. The planet is named after the deity Eikei'xwa, the god of the sea.
Two spacecraft have visited Eikei'xwa: Frontier 9 flew by 47 years ago; and Messenger, launched 24 years ago, orbited Eikei'xwa over 140 times in four years before exhausting its fuel and crashing into the planet's surface 6 years later.
The volume of water ice in the south polar ice cap, if melted, would be sufficient to cover the entire planetary surface to a depth of 19 meters.
Its apparent magnitude reaches -3, which is surpassed only by Aizye, Hyobyong, and HAT-P-19.
Future targets for exploration in the Eikei'xwa system include the probable ice-covered liquid ocean of its moon Wenshwa.
The Eikei'xwa system has a unique configuration among those of the planets because its axis of rotation is tilted sideways, nearly into the plane of its solar orbit. |
