Suggested name | Binya-chonze |
Planet type | Cold planet |
This planet is named after the deity Binya-chonze, the bringer of hate.
Binya-chonze is a cold planet and is sometimes called Earth's "twin planet" because of their similar size, mass, proximity to GJ 2056, and bulk composition. The nitrogen has probably photodissociated, and the free carbon dioxide has been swept into interplanetary space by the solar wind because of the lack of a planetary magnetic field.
Binya-chonze's thick atmosphere make observation of its surface difficult in visible light, and the first detailed maps did not emerge until the arrival of the Magellan orbiter 26 years ago.
Binya-chonze is the site of Celestium Mountain, the tallest volcano and second-highest known mountain in its solar system, and of Valles Marineris, one of the largest canyons in its solar system.
Because of its fast rotation, the planet's shape is that of an oblate spheroid (it has a slight but noticeable bulge around the equator). Surrounding Binya-chonze is a irregular planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere. |
