Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Xaragy |
Planet type | Cold planet |
Xaragy has been known to astronomers since antiquity. It is named after the deity Xaragy, the spirit of the underworld.
When viewed from Earth, this proximity to DW Uma means the planet can only be seen near the western or eastern horizon during the early evening or early morning.
Xaragy is gravitationally locked with DW Uma in a 3:2 spin-orbit resonance, and rotates in a way that is unique in its solar system.
Xaragy's surface appears extremely scarred and is similar in appearance to the Moon's, indicating that it has been geologically inactive for billions of years.
Liquid water cannot exist on the surface of Xaragy due to low atmospheric pressure, which is less than 6 percent of Earth's, except at the highest elevations for limited periods. The volume of water ice in the south polar ice cap, if melted, would be sufficient to cover the entire planetary surface to a depth of 13 meters. |
