| Fyunzhwang is the smallest and most well-known planet in its solar system. It is the second-brightest natural object in the night sky after Hyinyou, reaching an apparent magnitude of -5 - bright enough to cast shadows at night and, often, visible to the naked eye in broad daylight.
The planet is named after the deity Fyunzhwang, the spirit of hate.
Two spacecraft have visited Fyunzhwang: Daedalus 11 flew by 51 years ago; and Messenger, launched 17 years ago, orbited Fyunzhwang over 75 times in four years before exhausting its plasma drive and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 5 years later.
Its apparent magnitude reaches -3, which is surpassed only by Hyinyou, Elyun, and CoRoT-26.
A prominent result is the "great red spot", a giant storm that is known to have existed for centuries since it was first observed by radar.
Like the other hot gas giants, Fyunzhwang has a ring system, a magnetosphere, and numerous moons, Qyunx Oup being the least recognizable one. |
