Suggested name | Daxoni |
Planet type | Huge cold gas giant |
This huge cold gas giant is named after the deity Daxoni, the spirit of the sea.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 155°K (-118°C) at night to 770°K (497°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
Two spacecraft have visited Daxoni: Wayfinder 4 flew by 23 years ago; and Messenger, launched 26 years ago, orbited Daxoni over 70 times in four years before exhausting its pwoer source and crashing into the planet's surface 5 years later.
Observations from Earth have shown seasonal change and increased weather activity as Daxoni approached its equinox 6 years ago. Wind speeds can reach 135 metres per second. |
