Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Gyojo-bya |
Planet type | Small hot gas planet |
It is named after the deity Gyojo-bya, the god of the sea.
Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 155°K (-118°C) at night to 945°K (672°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
The volume of water detected has been estimated to be equivalent to the volume of water in Earth's oceans.
Surrounding Gyojo-bya is a irregular planetary ring system and a powerful magnetosphere.
In late February 3100, Gyojo-bya was visited by the New Horizons probe, which used Gyojo-bya's gravity to increase its speed and bend its trajectory en route to Pauzuso Gyo.
The Gyojo-bya system has a unique configuration among those of the planets because its axis of rotation is tilted sideways, nearly into the plane of its solar orbit. |
