The planet is named after the deity Wogyune Nyo, the messenger of fear.
Its orbital eccentricity is the largest of all known planets in its solar system; at perihelion, Wogyune Nyo's distance from Kepler-1572 is only about two-thirds (or 92 pct) of its distance at aphelion. Having almost no atmosphere to retain heat, it has surface temperatures that vary diurnally more than on any other planet in its solar system, ranging from 125°K (-148°C) at night to 770°K (497°C) during the day across the equatorial regions.
Plans have been proposed for rovers or more complex missions, but they are hindered by Wogyune Nyo's strong magnetosphere.
The rotational period and seasonal cycles of Wogyune Nyo are likewise similar to those of Chuwo, as is the tilt that produces the seasons.
There are ongoing investigations assessing the past habitability potential of Wogyune Nyo, as well as the possibility of extant life. |
