The 2H2O has probably photodissociated, and the free nitrogen has been swept into interplanetary space by the solar wind because of the lack of a planetary magnetic field. Onun's surface is a barren desertscape interspersed with slab-like rocks and is periodically resurfaced by volcanism.
There are ongoing investigations assessing the present habitability potential of Onun, as well as the possibility of extant life. |
