Suggested name | Shipu |
Planet type | Terrestrial |
Shipu is the strangest and most crater filled planet in its solar system.
The interior of Shipu is mainly composed of ices and rock. This planet is named after the deity Shipu, the spirit of hate.
Two spacecraft have visited Shipu: Frontier 11 flew by 47 years ago; and Messenger, launched 20 years ago, orbited Shipu over 150 times in four years before exhausting its fuel and crashing into the planet's surface 7 years later.
There are ongoing investigations assessing the past habitability potential of Shipu, as well as the possibility of extant life. |
