Fictional info (?) |
Suggested name | Elgel |
Planet type | Hot gas giant |
It is named after the deity Elgel, the spirit of good fortune.
It has the densest atmosphere of the known hot gas giants, consisting of huge amounts of methane.
Elgel was one of the first planets to have its motions plotted across the sky - as early as the second millennium BC.
The latest probe to visit the planet is Racer, which entered into orbit around Elgel after a problematic ride.
The cruel oceans are occupied by harmless yet primordial plants, the "Surthe", that spend their life in caves by consuming the somewhat smaller "Thydi-pho" if they can. Most Surthe are related to the Keone Skamoon but have wings and vary in size from 40 to 100 cm. The Surthe are able to live at temperatures from 80 to 120°C and also drought. |
