When viewed from Earth, this proximity to COCONUTS-3 means the planet can only be seen near the western or eastern horizon during the early evening or early morning. Two spacecraft have visited Porthe Ge: Wayfinder 7 flew by 24 years ago; and Messenger, launched 14 years ago, orbited Porthe Ge over 140 times in four years before exhausting its pwoer source and crashing into the planet's atmosphere 4 years later. Porthe Ge's thick atmosphere make observation of its surface difficult in visible light, and the first detailed maps did not emerge until the arrival of the Magellan orbiter 28 years ago.
